They now run Fore/Adventure based on the sandy Studland Dorset peninsula, offering a range of activities from two-hour taster sessions to three-day expeditions for all ages and abilities

The life-change proved a success, the business has flourished, thriving on personal bespoke service and amassing a string of media plaudits, not least from appearing on Jamie Oliver’s Friday Night Feast.

“We spent our former years living and working in cities; once we had our first daughter our perspective shifted, we yearned to give our family a different way of life and give others a heap of antics on our patch of wild in Dorset through foraging, feasting and simply enjoying the great outdoors, passing on the batten for nature-loving days to as many people that stumble across us as we can,” says Jade.

Starting with one small hut and four sea kayaks, they quickly built up a solid reputation for kayaking but increasingly embedded their business in the local environment, adding new strings to their bows, training to become a beach school and forest leader and getting involved in seasonal feasts and events.

“The arrival of two more daughters gave us all the inspiration we needed to look for ways to expand. But we’ve learnt to think outside the box, to let our passions shine through so it set us apart from others, we aim to make each client’s experience really special and authentic. 

That said, being self-employed isn’t always the easiest road but the journey is far more rewarding when you’ve got a good team on-side, and every success feels sweeter together,” adds Jade.

But the biggest key to success is Fore/Adventure’s location. “We are completely immersed in nature here on the coast, watching our environment change through the seasons is a constant source of inspiration. The way the tide goes out for miles on spring tides determines how we interact with the shoreline. One day’s catch can be so different from the next, the sand dunes shift on an almost daily basis when an easterly wind blows – it’s the most inspiring place for our guests.”
