Discover the Village built on soap!

Port Sunlight Village was originally built by William Lever to house the workers of his nearby soap factory, Lever Brothers. William Lever had a strong sense of social responsibility and created a village with architecturally interesting buildings, open green spaces and tree framed vistas to make Port Sunlight an uplifting place to live and work.

Today Port Sunlight Village is home to over 2,000 residents, an award-winning museum, the Edwardian worker’s cottage experience and Bridge Cottage Community Hub.

Port Sunlight Museum showcases the founding, development and unique architecture of the village. It also includes ‘Sunlight Sprit’ a film shining a light on those who lived and worked in Port Sunlight from 1888 onwards. Interactive displays, vintage soap packaging, a unique connection to musical legends The Beatles and other Port Sunlight nostalgia showcase the story of this special village.

Step back in time to 1913 and explore the inside of a Port Sunlight home. The Edwardian worker’s cottage has been brought to life, each room is filled with period artefacts offering a chance to discover what life was like in Port Sunlight over a century ago!

Bridge Cottage was once the former home of William Lever. It is one of the largest and most architecturally significant houses in Port Sunlight. It is not only a thriving Community Hub and popular set for location filming, Bridge Cottage has a wonderful events programme and a must see vintage shop.
