Perfectly situated overlooking the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the newly restored Pullman Camping Coaches are truly a once in a liftetime stay
Originally built in 1917 as part of a World War One Ambulance Train, ‘Elmira’ and ‘Maid of Kent’ are the UK’s oldest Railway ‘Camping Coaches’ still in their original location – uniquely situated at the Ravenglass Railway since 1960. Now unique self-catering accommodation, they are located within two UNESCO World Heritage sites, overlooking the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway in the Western Lake District.
Visitors staying in the coaches are entitled to 50% off fares on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway throughout their stay, enjoying journeys on one of the oldest and longest narrow gauge railways in England.
Please note there are steep steps to access the front door of the carriages. There is also access to the rear of the coaches with fewer steps. Please see our extensive accessibility guide relating to our Camping Coaches below, with accessibility information for the site as a whole available here.
