90 years old and still at work!
Ermintrude, our 1929 single deck bus has had a charmed life. After working hard from 1929 to 1945 she was sold to a fairground. Abandoned in the 1950's, she was rescued in the 1970's, walled up inside a night club in the 1980's and finally rebuilt and restored.
She is now the oldest bus in Britain licensed to carry fare paying passengers and twice a week during the Summer she runs throughout the day between Aldeburgh and Thorpeness. No need to book, just wait at any stop along the route and pay the Clippie once you're safely seated. Powered by a mighty 40hp engine, Ermintrude regularly cruises at 25 mph. Listen to the music of the gearbox, the merry 'ting' of the bell and the cheerful chatter of the Clippie. Wave at the passers-by and admire the scenery - the sea, the old houses, the marshes and the quirky village of Thorpeness.

There are three steps from ground level so we regret that Ermintrude is not suitable for wheelchair users. Subject to space being available we do carry pushchairs. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
